Event Description:

Eastern District (open to all districts!) Ashdown Forest Outing

Current Status: We have all four towers confirmed!

The ringing will be for anyone who can ring rounds unassisted upwards, so if you are a new member, please don't feel you won't be of a good enough standard to come out and enjoy the day - it can seem daunting ringing at a different tower for the first time, but there will be plenty of people about who will be able to support and encourage you.

Lunch is by own arrangement, but there are a number of pubs in the area, the obvious one being "The Bear" (previously The Anchor) in Hartfield itself.  You can book a table online via their website if you want to (https://www.thebearhartfield.com/book-online-1).  There is also the Hatch Inn, which is just a plain course away from the church at Coleman's Hatch (https://www.hatchinn.co.uk/book-a-table) and, or course, Pooh Corner in the High Street of Hartfield (https://poohcorner.co.uk/current-menu/).  There is also the Forester's Arms (https://www.theforestersfairwarp.com/book-a-table) next to our final church at Fairwarp.

For those wishing to play Pooh Sticks, bring some boots and the car park is off Chuck Hatch Lane, What3Words ///outings.chambers.outbound.  Don't forget to collect some sticks as you head down the hill, as they are always in short supply around the bridge itself!

The bells we will be ringing:
  • Maresfield, ground floor 8 with a tenor of 14cwt and consists of the original 6 from 1787 supplemented by two trebles from 1950
  • Hartfield, ring of 6 with a tenor of 9cwt, all late 18th century bells
  • Coleman's Hatch, recently refurbished (2021) 1913 G&J ring of 8 with a tenor of 11cwt
  • Fairwarp, 15cwt 8 ring of 8, G&J 1936, widely considered to be one of the best rings of 8 in the area.
I'm looking forward to meeting some of you on the day, if you are coming and I don't already know, please drop me a message via e-mail, text or WhatsApp (07961 166069) to let me know you are coming, and also the level you'd like to ring at (ie round, call changes, Plain Hunt, Surprise Major etc).  It isn't mandatory by any means, but it just helps me plan a bit.

We have had lots of "first time" eventers attending this year, and it's great to see so many of you out and about.

Final timetable for the day (check back nearer the time for the full schedule):

Maresfield 10:00-10:45 (Confirmed)
Hartfield 11:15-12:00 (Confirmed)
Lunch 12:00-13:30 - there are a number of pubs in the area plus the Winnie the Pooh tea shop in Hartfield
Coleman's Hatch 13:30-14:30 (Confirmed)
Fairwarp 15:00-16:00 (Confirmed)

Parking at Maresfield: there is a car park to the south of the church next to the recreation ground (I don't think there is a church car park)
Parking at Hartfield: use the High Street, or there is a rumour of parking permitted at the school at weekends.
The other two churches have parking next to them.

Don't forget some cash for tower donations!
