The Northern District Summer Outing will take place on Saturday 2nd August. Ringing will be rounds onwards - all welcome!
This year's outing will feature a set of towers in the Surrey area, as we venture across the border! Confirmed details:
10:00-10:45 - Rudgwick, St Nicolas: 8 bells, 14-0-5cwt in F (Church Street, Rudgwick, RH12 3EB)
An antique-clockwise peal of 8 rung from a gallery. A mixed bag of bells cast around London, except for the two trebles that were cast at the Eijsbouts
11:15-12:00 Ockley, St Peter & St Paul: 6 bells, 13-2-4cwt in F#; ground floor (Coles Lanes, Ockley, RH5 5LS)
A peal of 6 with a bit of a draft. Originally a complete 6 by Richard Phelps in 1701, the treble was recast by Whitechapel in 1981. In the same year, the back 5 by Phelps were re-tuned 4 bells were recorded in the church in 1552.
12:00-13:30 - lunch: own arrangements
13:30-14:15 - Capel, St John the Baptist: 6 bells, 6-3-7cwt in A (The Street, Capel, RH5 5JZ)
A charming peal of 6 by a mixed bag of founders. One of which is by Richard Eldridge of Woking. The bells were overhauled by Mears & Stainbank in 1951 that included the recasting of one of the two Eldridge bells.
14:30 - 15:15 - Newdigate, St Peter: 6 bells, 8-0-1cwt in Bb; ground floor (Church Lane, Newdigate, RH5 5DL)
All 6 by Thomas I Mears were recast by the Whitechapel Bellfoundry in 1969. Hung in a lovely wooden tower and cozy ringing room.
