This is an annual striking competition held between teams from various associations in the south east. This year it was hosted by SCACR at Southover on Saturday 8th September. Of a possible eight teams only four took part, ringing a specially composed touch of 315 Stedman Caters. The judge was Alan Ainsworth from Amersham who is ringing master at St Paul’s cathedral.
The weather was hot and sunny, ideal for those taking part to mingle whilst not ringing. This, however, seemed to result in traffic jams on the roads into Sussex resulting in a slightly delayed start. Southover ringers did us really proud with the arrangements for the afternoon.
Sussex came a creditable second behind winners Kent; this is the first time they had won the competition since 1985 having finished second for the previous two years. The full results are as follows: 1st Kent: 55 faults, 2nd Sussex: 71 faults, 3rd Essex: 103 faults, 4th Guildford: 111 faults
One extra to the afternoon was that Adrial Walton had arranged some ringers from the southern division to come along and have a go at attempting to judge the competition as part of a follow up to her listening session held earlier in the year.
