Congratulations to the Sussex Young ringers! First place at the South East Youth Striking Competition at Warnham on Saturday 14th April.
The Sussex clothing range is proving popular with polo t-shirts, and perhaps not surprisingly given the weather so far this year, warm sweatshirts and rugby tops leading the way.
A new item has just been added ahead of the hopefully warmer Spring weather – a fleece gilet at a bargain price of just £21.96 available in a range of colours. Head to www.scacr.org/resources/clothing for more details or get in touch with Sandra at This email address is being protected from spambots. Thank you from Alan Regin and Alan Seymour, to all the Tower Bands and Ringers who during 2017 arranged and rung to Commemorate the Great War Centenary deaths of the 15 known SCACR / Sussex Ringers who died while on service in His Majesty Forces in 1917.
Also further to the ‘Remembering Sussex Bell-ringers - Songs of Praise Service’ held in April 2017 at St. Swithuns, East Grinstead; a special thank you to Marisa Hayes, and to all those involved in arranging and carrying out this service. Thank you also to those who attended.
1918 would see 11 known SCACR / Sussex Bell-ringers from 9 towers lose their lives. They were in date order:
Date | Surname | First names | Tower |

Could I please ask the above Tower Bands to arrange for some Great War Centenary Commemorative ringing, to take place in 2018 on or near the Centenary of death of each ringer? Thank you. You will find the basic Military/Commemorative details on each of the above names on our Rolls of Honour page.
After each or any other Great War Centenary Commemorative ringing, could I please ask that the details of the ringing are forwarded to Alan Regin, C.C.C.B.R. Steward of the Roll of Honours, via email at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and cc: This email address is being protected from spambots. Alan Seymour, Burgess Hill, January 2018
Saturday the 27th of January saw 12 ringers from across Sussex gather at Southover, Lewes for the ‘M2F’ course run by the Association of Ringing Teachers (ART). The one-day course at Southover was fully booked, with Gill Hughes (from Derbyshire) putting them through their paces on the road to becoming better teachers / coaches.
Ian: “I had no pre-conceived learning objects for attending the Module 2F course, but, based on my experience of the Module M1 course I had an expectation for a very useful informative day, which would provide valuable tools to improve my teaching technique and effectiveness, presented in a collaborative environment and friendly atmosphere. I was not in any way disappointed.”
