Ringing to Commemorate 'Battle of the Boar's Head' (30 June 2016)

The Battle of the Boar's Head started on 30 June 1916 just south of Richebourg, L'Avoue, Northern France. It became known as 'The Day Sussex Died'; around 70% of the hundreds of men who died that day came from Sussex.

To commemorate this day, we are encouraging as many SCACR bands as possible to ring on Thursday 30 June 2016 at 5pm for around 15 minutes, or another time that day. There will also be a peal attempt at Chichester Cathedral (13.45 – 17:00).

As well as this, there will also be other commemorations taking place in Sussex at 17:00.  This will also be the time when the Centenary Commemoration is being held in Richebourge, Northern France.

For more details please see the attached document: The_Day_Sussex_Died.pdf

Gary Baines from the Sussex Living History Group, would like to get as much publicity for "The Day Sussex Died during the Boar's Head" as possible.

If your tower is ringing for this event on Thursday 30 June between 17:00 and 17:15, or at any other time during that day, please e-mail Gary at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Ringing for Queen's 90th birthday

The Queen's 90th birthday is this year! (the actual birthday was 21 April 2016; the official celebration date is 11 June 2016).

The CCCBR has produced posters (in PDF and docx formats) to advertise any ringing for this event.

The SCACR has produced a certificate for towers to print and record their ringing for this special occasion. The example certificate is for any ringing on up to 8 bells; please adapt this to suit your needs. The certificate can be edited in Word to add the names, or printed and handwritten.

Sponsored (Ap)-Peal Update!

Our Bells rang out across Bexhill on the afternoon of Sunday 27th December as a group of campanologists embarked on a three-hour challenge in aid of the life-saving charity The Anthony Nolan Trust. Included in the peal attempt to ring 5040 changes of Grandsire Triples were: - two ringers from Bexhill, one each from St Leonards, Brede Alfriston, Horsham, Crawley and one from Kent.

Julie McDonnell came up with the ‘barking mad’ (as she put it) challenge to raise funds for the charity which saves the lives of people with blood cancer  a cause very close to Julie’s heart.
