Sussex Quarter Peal 'week' (10 days) 13 - 22 September 2019

Sussex Quarter Peal week (10 days) is here again!

The dates 13th to 22nd September are specifically aligned to Heritage Open Days which for the second year running is over two weekends. This event is extended to include extraordinary challenges (in addition to Quarter Peals) to be inclusive of ringers who joined our happy band recently via the “Ringing Remembers” campaign. Are you ready for your first Quarter Peal? Ask your Tower Captain or fellow ringers if they can help out. Can you call or ring a Quarter before the 22nd September? We look forward to hearing those bells and seeing your names and maybe photos up there.

Here is a link to the event on Bellboard: https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/event.php?id=11254 - make sure you link your ringing to this event and they will all be printed together in the Ringing World. There are 8 Quarter Peals for Sussex showing on Bellboard since 13 Sep, but only two are linked to the event. Congratulations to Ringmer & Eastbourne for linking their ringing to the event!. It's easy to edit your QP on Bellboard - just look for the pencil and then link to the event...

Essex Trophy - Sussex achieve 3rd place!

This year the Essex Trophy 10-bell Striking Competition was hosted on Saturday 14th Sept by the Middlesex County Association and London Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers on behalf of the Essex Association at Southgate Christ Church (24–3–7).

Six teams entered the competition this year and were drawn on the morning to perform in the following order:

1) Surrey
2) Kent
3) Essex
4) Guildford
5) Sussex
6) Hertfordshire

The test piece was 327 changes of Stedman Caters, and the competition was judged by Paul and Kate Flavell, ringers at Kingston upon Thames.

Sussex have won the competition for the past two years running.

This year we took the opportunity to include five members of the Association in our band, who regularly ring on higher numbers but haven't previously competed in this competition. Two out of 10 from the @rwyouthringing team and 4 under 25! Practices for the competition were held at East Grinstead and Horsham; these allowed the band to get used to both ringing the test piece and ringing with each other.
